Pyrolysis-gas chromatography-mass spectrometry of soil polysaccharides, soil fulvic acids and polymaleic acid

چکیده
Cryogenic Curie-point pyrolysis-gas chromatography-mass spectrometry has been applied to investigate the chemical composition of organic matter present in soils. Two soil fulvic acid fractions, a so-called soil polysaccharide fraction and polymaleic acid were analyzed. The soil polysaccharide fraction contains almost exclusively polysaccharides with major building blocks glucose, mannose and galactose. The soil fulvic acid fractions contain varying amounts of polysaccharides, lignins and lipids. Polymaleic acid structures were virtually absent in the podzol fulvic acid and absent in other soil organic matter fractions, indicating that these structures, previously suggested to be present in soil fulvic acids, do not play an important role.

Flash pyrolysis-gas chromatography/mass spectrometry(Py-GC/MS) was used to study the structural transformations of humic fractions formed as a result of composting processes of diverse organic materials (solid wastes of wineries, solid olive-mill wastes, domestic wastes, ovine manures plus straw, and mixtures of animal manures). Sodium hydroxide-extracted total humic-like extracts (THE; humic p...

We studied quantitative and qualitative changes in soil organic matter (SOM) due to different land uses (reference woodland versus cultivated) on six soils from Tanzania (Mkindo and Mafiga), Zimbabwe (Domboshawa and Chikwaka), and South Africa (Hertzog and Guquka). Structural characteristics of the humic acids (HAs) were measured by Curie-point pyrolysis–gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (Py...

To date, only differential extraction-based approaches have been able to determine the presence of covalently bound contaminants such as the reduced forms of trinitrotoluene (TNT) in field soils. Here, we employed thermal elution, pyrolysis, and gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (GC/MS) to distinguish between covalently bound and non-covalently bound reduced forms of TNT in soil. Model soil ...

In a previous study, selective degradation of carbohydrates versus lignin in buried woods was demonstrated by non-destructive spectroscopy (C NMR) and destructive wet chemical methods (acid hydrolysis and alkaline CuO oxidation). In this paper, spruce, alder and oak woods deposited in coastal sediments and their recent equivalents are characterized by pyrolysis-mass spectrometry and pyrolysis-g...

A pyrolysis/sublimation technique was developed to isolate volatile amine compounds from a Mars soil analogue inoculated with V10 billion Escherichia coli cells. In this technique, the inoculated soil is heated to 5003C for several seconds at Martian ambient pressure and the sublimate, collected by a cold finger, then analyzed using high performance liquid chromatography. Methylamine and ethyla...
